How do I record DVD movies to play on my TV?

I have Memorex DVD + R 16x 4.7GB 120 Min Video RW. Who would not mean anything for me. I have Windows Vista. How do I record my home movies on those discs. Do I need special programs to get to work on my DVD player? Thank you for your help – George
